This will be my last tour for awhile, so make sure you get tickets!
El Turista is just $5 during Yep Roc’s Gimme 5! $5 CD Sale. Head to the Yep Roc Store to grab a copy before the sale ends May 23.
Spent a morning while on tour in Spain with the elusive Paco Loco in Puerto De Santa Maria. Myself along with Esteban Perles, Cayo Bellveser and Xema Fuertes cut 3 new songs “The Lonely Postman”, “The Warm Winds” and” Josh Rouse’s Worried Blues”. In the evening we did a set of the Violent Femmes followed by tapas at midnight. On to Sevilla.
The nice folks at my label Yep Roc are putting out a split 7″ with myself and The Autumn Defense as an exclusive release for Record Store Day! The AD’s we’re doing Bob Welch’s “Sentimental Lady” so I went with Linsdey Buckingham’s “Trouble”. It’s a cool collectors piece that you can pick up at fine indie record stores next Saturday the 19th.
IMG_4620-1Had the honor of having Howe Gelb stop by the studio to play piano on a new song last week. Distinct and classy chops. A few days later in Madrid with Nick Lowe, Jorge Drexler, Javier Limon playing Cruel To Be Kind. Lot’s of stories, sunshine, and inspiration!
I think there are a few tickets left….

I’ll be working at Alex the Great with Brad Jones and Marc Pisapia, James”Hags” Haggerty, Chris Carmichael, and Fats Kaplin on some pedal steel. Country classics baby! See you at the Family Wash.
If you haven’t already heard I’ll be playing some solo shows from Vancouver down to San Diego in June. Come out and hear some new tunes and old favorites!
I was 14 years old and about to start the 9th grade. I had just recently moved in with my father who was a drill sergeant in the US Army. He was stationed in Ft. Benning Georgia which intersects with Columbus, an unfavorable part of the country.. Although I had spent the summer prior visiting there, I was not ready for the punishment a small freshman midwestern boy could take in a predominantly black high school like Columbus High. It took months for me to get the guts to sit down at “nerd” lunch table. That’s how scared and shy I was. Like all misfits longing for community I joined the Ft. Benning swim team after school and met a cool guy who had just been shipped in from Rhode Island. He was a skater and wore little yarn “friendship” bracelets and polo shirts. He asked me what kind of music I liked and it was mostly just radio hits with a few underground rap songs thrown in( the Roxanne saga anyone)?
The next day he brought a 3rd generation copy of the Violent Femmes first album and I hung on every fucking word. Mind blowing for a 14 year old living in a military household. Needless to say 27 years on I still know all the words and the music brings me back to that moment in my life. I will be singing these timeless, horny, angst ridden anthems with the Long Vacations in April/May in Spain. Full circle.
